Joby

In the story, "The Drummer Boy," Joby is depressed about going to war the next day. He does not want to fight or to die. Then the General comes and boosts his spirits...

The General manages to boost his spirits by telling him he is important, and that he is needed. The General said, "Joby, you are the heart of the army," and that really made Joby feel better about the next day, because he controlled the army.

Another reason the general made him less depressed was his aura of fatherly, and how he cried the night before, and it wasn't just Joby. That way Joby could feel Empathy between them, and know that he wasn't the only one.

And as the petrels dropped in the end, they looked happy, because the general had rid Joby of his depression, and he was now ready, ready do do his job at the battle of Shiloh.
